The aim of this project is to explore the nature, origins, and implications of the portrayal of women in the James Bond novels, through an examination of the literature, the cultural context, and the life of Ian Fleming. Essentially, we’ll investigate the strange and sexual world of 007 and the many thrilling, ambiguously consensual encounters within. The first section looks at the cultural significance of Bond, to both Fleming and his fans. The second reviews Fleming’s relationships with women and his views on femininity. Finally, we’ll buckle down and analyze the novels and how the sexual relationships between James Bond and specific characters function.
